PESONet (Philippine Batch Payments)

Reference entry · last updated 20260910

PESONet is a Philippine electronic funds transfer service that processes credit transfers in batches. It operates within the NRPS framework.[1]

1. First principles: batch transfers

A batch groups payment instructions for processing at scheduled intervals. The sender instructs its institution to pay the beneficiary. Submission, clearing, settlement, and credit to the beneficiary are separate stages.[1]

2. Settlement cycles

BSP’s FAQ dated 20240827 describes three multilateral batch settlement cycles during a banking day. Receiving institutions credit beneficiaries after receiving inward clearing advice. Several cycles provide additional opportunities to complete transfers within that day.[1]

A provider’s submission cutoff determines which cycle can process a payment. A batch schedule does not promise immediate credit for every instruction submitted.[1]

3. Relationship to InstaPay

InstaPay provides almost instant customer credit and operates around the clock. PESONet’s batch arrangement follows a different processing schedule.[2]

The moment the sender presses “send” alone does not identify the beneficiary’s credit time.
